Body small, elongate, anterior section slightly cylindraceous, head slightly depressed and wider than head depth; eyes degenerated and only with a shallow concave; anterior and posterior nostrils closely next to each other, anterior nostril situated in nostril lamella, rear edge of lamella triangle-shaped and overpassing backward rear edge of posterior nostril; mouth inferior and deeply arciform; lips thick; barbells 3 pairs and long, outer rostral one most developed; body naked and without pigment; lateral line pores clear. Last unbranched ray of dorsal fin soft and origin of dorsal fin somewhat nearer to tip of snout than to base of caudal fin; pectoral fin spread flatly, near to abdomen and oute edge convex; pelvic and anal fins large; caudal fin slightly harge, shallowly forked and tips blunt. In life, body color faint white and semitransparent, vertebrae pale reddish, gill covers thoroughly red and fins transparent

生活环境较特殊，生活于离地表400m 左右的地下溶洞中。周围环境黑暗，洞内常年水温17℃左右。水呈弱碱性，水流湍急，水质清沏。此鱼对光无明显反应，触觉灵敏。须常呈放射状伸展，鼻瓣竖起，以监测环境动态
